All open burning within the Nunn Fire Protection District requires a burn permit, with one exception: a small fire pit used for recreation does not.
No burning may take place on a Red Flag day.
How to get a permit
- Apply through Weld County. Burn permits are issued by Weld County, not by Nunn Fire. Apply at apps.weld.gov/health/burnpermits.
- Notify Nunn Fire before you burn. Once your permit is issued, call us at (970) 897-2329 to tell us when you plan to burn and give us your permit number.
Nunn Fire does not charge a fee for open-burn notification.
Before you light
- Check whether a Red Flag Warning is in effect — if one is, do not burn.
- Check for active fire restrictions in Weld County.
- Have your permit number on hand when you call us.
- Never leave a burn unattended.
